• A few years ago, I read that Toronto’s office space market was in a stable, tenant-favouring situation (according to one office realtor’s GTA office-space report). They claimed that the average vacancy rate had continued to hover at approximately 6.5 per cent while average asking net rent was declining. They even went on to say that the Toronto office space market absorbs the new supply of office towers, and with no major new supply anticipated in the near future, the company forecasted a reverse trend towards a landlords’ market by 2011 or 2012.

It was interesting that they did not mention anything about office business centres in Toronto; they only talked about office space for lease in Toronto. With the last downturn in the economy, it seems that smaller businesses were starting up and growing faster than bigger businesses. Many smaller businesses that are looking at Toronto office space are beginning to shy away from traditional office space and instead are looking at renting serviced office space at office business centres that take the risk out of leasing office space.

Then I read an article today that says Toronto’s downtown office space market appears poised to explode again with construction, as the commercial office space real estate industry is waiting for that one spark to kick-start the office leasing sector.

This recent article puts its credibility behind rumours of continued speculation that a major office space developer will begin a new round of aggressive building in the country’s largest office-for-rent market. The speculation was that that it will go ahead with the second tower for another project that provided much of the stimulation for a round of construction when its first tower was announced back in the mid-2000’s. Another development in the downtown core may not attract the higher-end tenants who are looking at lower-priced space outside the core.
It is not surprising, with office rents in the core of the Toronto financial district remaining high, that many office space for lease seekers are now looking outside the core for a better deal in a newer office building development – or in a lower-priced office space that already exists downtown.

  • As I was working in my Toronto private offices the past few days, I noticed that it was much quieter than most weeks. I guess that some people had taken the time between Christmas and New Years as a vacation. It was then that I realized that 2010 is coming to a close. While I am looking forward to 2011, I am going to miss 2010.

It is hard to believe that 2010 is almost over. In the span of the year things have really changed for me. I started doing more photography work for various clients. I got to work with some other very talented photographers by assisting them on their shots, I also got to do a very special shoot with a model from Detroit and had the assistance of a very well known artist setting up the model. I am getting more and more known for my photography and getting the recognition of my peers.

2010 was also great because I met a very special lady that I call my smiley girl. She is almost always smiling and her smile is the first thing that people notice about her. We met at a party back in June and have been inseparable from that time on. On Boxing Day, we celebrated 6 months together.

Back in July I moved from a main floor of a house in Scarborough to a place in East York. I moved into a smaller place, but one that was closer and more convenient to my downtown Toronto office space. Instead of a 30 minute commute, my commute takes me less than 15 minutes. Well, sometimes it is longer if I am driving in rush hour traffic, but because I set my own office hours I normally drive during off peak times.

I also made another move this year, one involving me moving into a private office space. The Toronto shared office space that I was using for the past few years was great, but I wanted to have a private office that I could meet clients in any time I wanted without having to book a meeting room all the time. It also allowed me to make the space my own by putting up my own pieces of art. Don’t get me wrong, the modern furnishings and artwork are great and the newly decorated lobby is bright and welcoming. I like the fact that I can also personalize my private office space at Telsec.

  • When I moved into my new apartment back in the summer, I held off ordering cable right away. I did not watch much TV when I had cable, so why pay for something I did not watch. There was some TV shows that I did watch and like, but I quickly discovered that I could watch my favourite shows on the Internet.

Just in case you were thinking that “The office” was one of those shows, you would be wrong. Just because the theme of this blog is about office space Toronto, that does not mean that I watch The office. In fact that TV show is nothing like my Downtown Toronto office space. Unlike the TV show my Toronto private office does not have the office politics and drama.

Being my own boss, I set the hours that I go into the office and when I perform certain tasks. One of the other benefits of watching my favourite shows over the internet is that I can watch them when I want and where I want. Just the other day I realized that I had not watched the latest 2 episodes of Donald Trump’s The Apprentice. So I was able to go to Global TV’s web site and watched both episodes that I missed, back to back.

This morning while I was sitting in my Toronto private offices between meetings, I was able to go online and watch Undercover Boss, the episode where the CEO of Lucky Strike Bowling goes undercover in his own company. I had no problems with watching the show because I have a really fast Internet connection at my Toronto serviced office that is up and running fast 99.99% of the time.

While I do not have as good of an Internet connection at home as I do at my office, I still enjoy my favourite shows with very little pauses or slowdowns, without needing to have cable television.

  • This past 4 days have been crazy for me, not only did I need to find a new place to live, but I had to find a place within hours and not days due the urgency of my living situation changing. I was fortunate that a friend knew of a place that was available, that was within my budget and closer to my downtown office space than my previous place.

This move has been the hardest move I have known. Being a long weekend, it was not only hard to find friends who did not already have plans or that were going out of town, to ask for assistance with this move.

Finding a truck was even more impossible, so the moving of boxes were done in several carloads. As boxes were packed, they were loaded in the car. As soon as the car was full, we would take a trip to the new place. With several carloads moved, it was time to start to move some furniture. Luckily a friend with a pickup truck had a few hours to spare on Saturday afternoon to take a few loads of furniture. Sunday and Monday were spent taking the final carloads of boxes and clothing from the old place to the new place.

It was after the move was finally done that I realized how much of a complete opposite this move was to the short notice office space move that I had done when I found my current office. When I moved into my Toronto furnished office downtown, I did not have to worry about a thing, the helpful staff at Telsec office business centres made it a very smooth move in.

When I moved into Telsec, all I had to do is bring my computer and files into my furnished office space. Once my computer was set up, a Telsec staff member was able to help me get set up on the network. Within minutes I was able to connect to the the various photocopier machines, including a colour laser copier. By lunch time I was receiving phone calls from clients taken by the professional receptionist and my calls were being transferred to my office space Toronto.

  • Canada’s Olympians may not have owned the podium, but they are now leading in terms of most Gold Medals at the Vancouver Olympic Games.

Canada’s men’s short track speed skating team finally ended their medal drought, they secured two Gold Medals and a Bronze Medal to put Canada third in the medal race and first in terms of most Gold Medals.

Charles Hamelin picked up the men’s short track Gold Medal, finishing first in the 500 metre skate. His teammate François-Louis Tremblay earned the Bronze Medal in the same 500 metre event.

Then less than an hour later in the men’s 5000 metre relay . Charles Hamelin and François-Louis Tremblay along with teammates François Hamelin, Olivier Jean and Guillaume Bastille, again reached for the top of the podium, winning the Gold Medal in the men’s 5000 metre relay.

Canada’s women’s curling team took a very close Silver Medal against the Swedish women. It took an extra end to decide the winner. Throughout the competition the Canadian women trounced their competition.

With the Canada 1 men’s bobsled in second place after the first day and Canada’s men’s hockey team advancing to the Gold Medal game against team USA, there are still chances for Canada to win more medals at these Vancouver Olympic Games.

While the own the podium campaign and funding did not live up to its full expectations, it really has helped Canadian athletes to get more Gold Medals than any other team at these Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. This is similar to the Gold Medal effort that the Telsec support staff gives their clients every day. Other office space Toronto locations claim to offer Toronto serviced offices, but do not deliver on the quality of service that the professional staff at Telsec continually give to their Toronto office space for rent client’s.
