This past two weeks I have been helping play tour guide for a gentleman from Australia. One of the things he wants to do during his last week in Canada is a High Tea. Upon a google search, I found that there are actual places in Toronto that do High Tea. What amazed me the most is that the King Edward Hotel on King Street and the Royal York offered these events.

This was great, because both locations were within walking distance from my Downtown Toronto office space. I could slip out to meet my friends for High Tea and get back to my office space in downtown Toronto, without too much effort.

Now I just have to choose which High Tea would be the best experience for the gentleman from Australia. I was still curious why someone from another commonwealth country would want to experience High Tea in Canada, when they have them in his own country. It did turn out that in his region of Australia, there were no places that offered a High Tea and he would have to travel 4 hours to get to one.  His feeling was that it would be easier to try one here, while he was staying 20 minutes from one in Canada.

What has made his trip here more confusing, but more interesting, is that he wants to visit uniquely Canadian tourist attractions. The CN Tower is no longer the world’s tallest free standing structure, but it was a few years ago. He did not want to spend the $25 to go up, but wanted to touch the base of it for free.

It was quite funny that I had to stop into my Downtown Toronto office space on Saturday to pick up some client files. My friend’s Australian visitor was more excited about the view of the Toronto Harbour and the Toronto islands from my office space Toronto, than the view they could have gotten from the CN Tower.

Maybe those other Toronto office space clients on the 18th floor of the Toronto Star building need to charge admission to their friends to look out their office windows!!

Americas morning television duo Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa rocketed the search term “Prince Edward Island” ranked second in the top Google search terms in the United States on Monday, even Tuesday the search term was ranked 19th.

Live with Regis and Kelly are in PEI to do two live shows and two taped shows to air Wednesday and Thursday. The Prince Edward Island government spent $800,000 to help bring the show to the province, while the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency contributed an additional $200,000.

I have not heard if Regis and Kelly would be taking a trip across the confederation bridge, the world’s longest bridge over ice-covered water, but in Toronto a bridge of its own was announced, well actually a tunnel. For years The Toronto Port Authority, who controls the Billy Bishop Island Airport has been trying to get a bridge to the airport. They are now planning  to build a 123-metre pedestrian tunnel at the cost of $45-million. The tunnel will be financed through a public-private partnership.

The Billy Bishop Island Airport has become very popular to business travelers who have Toronto Downtown office space and need to travel to cities like Ottawa, Montreal, New York and even Chicago. From their office space Toronto, they can be at the Island Airport in minutes and not have to fight traffic getting to Pearson International in Mississauga.

World Cup Finals was the buzz in the office today, not vuvuzelas. All the talk around the coffee machine at my Toronto office space today seemed to be about the World Cup final and the Spanish win. While some office space tenants were talking about this octopus that had predicted the winners of  all the important games, others want that octopus to help them pick their Lotto Maxx numbers.

As I was getting on the elevator to go for lunch, I overheard someone say that they were going to miss the sound of all those vuvuzelas.  The thought of never hearing that again was all that went through my mind. I just hope that people do not start bringing them on mass to Argonaut football games.

I was meeting with a client this afternoon at the shared office space that he utilizes. Unlike the Toronto Shared Offices that I have, he did not have a receptionist answering his calls, he did not have access to boardrooms or meeting rooms and he did not have complimentary coffee.  We had to go down to a food court of another building two blocks away to get a coffee.  I told him that next time he should meet with me at my Toronto office space.

It is not often that I welcome rain, but in todays case, I am loving it.  I am looking forward to it warming up again,  just not the humidity that we experienced this week. When I am in my Toronto office space the heat and humidity are not a problem, as the office is climate controlled. It is the leaving of my office space Toronto and having to walk out to a wall of heat and humidity that is not fun. I am considering leaving my office early and heading up to the Esplanade to sit on a patio while the break in the weather permits me to enjoy sitting on a patio and not having to go inside the bar to enjoy a beer.

I just looked out my office window overlooking the Toronto Harbour and noticed that the sky is still cloudy, but not as dark as it was earlier. Hopefully this does not mean that the temperature will be sky rocketing again.

Even with this small break in the temperature, the City of Toronto is still planning to keep the cooling centers open. It seems that tomorrow the temperatures will climb again, as will the wave of humidity.

Just when you thought it was safe to drive in downtown Toronto again, the Shriners  come to town. Over 10,000 Shriners are in Toronto this week for their annual convention. As part of their convention, they hold a parade with elaborate floats and miniature vehicles. This year with the Shriner convention in Toronto, they will be having their parade on University Avenue.

The parade, scheduled to start around 1 p.m. at Queen’s Park, will cause the shut down of University Avenue in both directions from College Street all the way down to Front Street. The closures are expected to begin early this morning and remain closed until 7 p.m.

The Shriners are mostly known for their funny fez hats, miniature cars and a well known circus. They do a great deal of fund raising for children’s hospitals specializing in burn care and orthopedics.

As I was heading to my Toronto office space, I could already see a bunch vehicles and trailers with Shriner logos and even a truck that was shaped like train locomotive that were heading for Queen’s Park to get into the parade. When I arrived at the parking lot outside my office space Toronto, there were a number of people with fez hats also parking in the lot. I started to wonder if my downtown office space was also going to be invaded by Shriners,  but quickly realized that they were parking there so they could pick up their cars after the parade.

Shriners raises funds for children’s hospitals across North America specializing in orthopedic and burn care, spinal cord rehabilitation and cleft lip and palate treatment. One of those locations is in Montreal.

To be considered a true heatwave it must be over 32 degrees for three consecutive days and today it hit over 35 (not including the humidity factor). The City of Toronto upgraded the “Heat Alert” they posted on Sunday, to an “Extreme Heat Alert” today. The city has opened several cooling centres such as Metro Hall that will be open for residents to cool off.

Instead of going into my air conditioned downtown Toronto office space today, I had to work from home (where the air conditioning was not working) and wait for a delivery. While I was at home I had CP24 on the television in the background. One of the stories they were talking about was about the 84 year old Queen and 89 year old Prince Philip visiting Research In Motion at the companies Waterloo headquarters. Part of the visit was inside, but the Queen did do a walk through the crowd. I can not imagine how she is taking this heat wave. The interesting thing about the trip to RIM is that the Queen was given her very own personalized BlackBerry Bold 9700. Her Majesty is not new to the BlackBerry, she actually got her first one back in 2007 after she was introduced to the smart phone by her son, the Duke of York.

I will be so happy when I get to my air conditioned office space Toronto tomorrow. Meanwhile there are those who are looking to get away to their cottages and have their calls forwarded by the receptionist, without their clients knowing they are not in their office.

Today a 5.o magnitude earthquake hit Toronto and I did not even notice it. At the time the quake struck, I was in my car on my way to my downtown office space for an afternoon meeting. I was totally unaware a earthquake had happened until I had parked my car. There were some protesters parking their BMW heading towards the Westin Harbour Castle protest area that asked me if I felt the Earthquake. They thought this may have been the work of the G20 security forces in an effort to scare away protesters.

When I got to my office space Toronto downtown, no one seemed to be talking about this so called earthquake. So I had to go to the internet for more information. It turns out that this earthquake epicentre was somewhere in Quebec and Toronto got only a light feeling of it. To those protesters in the BMW, it was not an elaborate government ploy and it was not Mother Nature’s way of trying to interrupt the G20 Summit.

Upon further research I found out why this earthquake was not felt in my downtown Toronto office space, it seems that when the Toronto Star Building was constructed in early 1970 when most new buildings were constructed using earthquake dampening technology. So one can only assume that this is why the earthquake was not felt in my office space  Toronto.

The fences surrounding the G20 Summit security zones are up and the protests have started, for the next 7 days downtown Toronto is going to be chaotic with traffic jams and protesters impeding pedestrian traffic. If that was not enough, the Vuvuzelas have also arrived in Toronto.

Yes, those Vuvuzela horns that have created havoc for players and TV viewers of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa are now on sale in Toronto. Already people have started gathering at Dundas Square to watch the World Cup matches on the big screens and to play their Vuvuzela along with the fans in the stadium thousands of miles away.

Along with being a great noise maker for soccer fans, some local fans have also found that the Vuvuzela can also be used as a great flagpole for whatever flag they chose to fly. Soccer fans walking around downtown Toronto can now carry their flag and toot their Vuvuzela horn. The reason so many footie fans are walking around downtown instead of driving is that the traffic congestion and shortage of available parking caused by the G20 Summit and Protests.

Speaking of protesters, nothing would be a better way to protest and annoy G20 leaders, than to have hundreds (if not thousands) of protesters blowing Vuvuzelas.  I know if the protesters start playing Vuvuzelas outside my downtown Toronto office space it would annoy me to want to leave the building and want to go home.

If you are looking for a daily office rental space, Telsec offers those too.

So you did not win the 50 million, don’t feel bad… It seems that for the third week in a row, there was no winner of the largest lottery prize in Canadian history. It also seems that only 27 of the 45 Maxmillion draws were won, 16 in Ontario and 11 in Quebec.

Next week, the grand prize will remain $50 million, but it is estimated that there will be 55 Maxmillion draws.  This number may even increase, depending on how many additional tickets are sold.

I too did not win the Lotto Maxx grand prize or one of  the Maxmillion prizes, which means that instead of taking a limo to the lottery prize office on Monday, I will be heading to my downtown Toronto office space.

I may not have won the lottery, but I almost think I did when I found my office space in Toronto. Not only do I have one of the best views of the Toronto harbour, but I also have a great office in a great location. An office space that is easy to get to and easy to escape from, without my clients knowing if I am in my Toronto office space or not.  When I want to leave my office an head out, I can instruct the professional receptionist at Telsec to forward my calls to my cell phone. When I answer the call, my clients think that I am in my office.

It seems that almost everyone has a twitter account these days. Not only are people using twitter to keep up with their friends, they are now using it to keep up to date on things like the FIFA World Cup, news about the Gulf of Mexico oils spill, Paul McCartney’s birthday and now the Toronto Transit Commission will be using Twitter to keep people up to date on route problems caused by G20 protesters. Not to be outdone, even the G20 protesters are using Twitter for communications and propaganda purposes.

If you look at what is trending on google and twitter in North America, you would be shocked to know that more Americans are paying attention to the FIFA World Cup than the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA Championship. The recent boom in attention for the game of soccer can be attributed to the founding of Major League Soccer in 1993 which was part of the United States’ bid to host the1994 FIFA World Cup. The League got more attention as more teams joined, but the big attention came when the Los Angeles Galaxy signed world famous football star David Beckham. The MLS signing of Beckham, had been seen as a coup for American soccer.

While the US team has yet to win a match at this FIFA World Cup, also yet to lose a match.  The two games that Team USA have played so far have both ended in a draw, the first game against England and then today against Slovenia. These two draws have them tied for second with England in Group C . One observation that I have made while traveling downtown to my Toronto office space, is the lack of US flags, in fact, I do not think I have seen one car flying the “Stars and Stripes“ flag of the USA.

If you are on Twitter, you can follow this Office Space Toronto blogger at twitter.com/TelsecDotNet.
