• Mothers Day weekend has been hard for me for the past many years. My own mother passed away a few years ago and it saddens me to think that she is no longer around to spend it with her. The Mothers Day weekend is also sad for me as it was the Friday before Mothers Day (May 11 1997) that my first wife Janet passed away. So instead of celebrating, I find myself reflecting about my mother and my late wife.

After I got home from my downtown Toronto office space on Thursday I got an email telling me that The Telsec office space Toronto website had been hacked and was being blocked by Google. I spent several hours trying to isolate the problem and resolve it. After trying to isolate the problem I remembered that I had a clean version of the site on my computer and uploaded it. That still did not resolve the problem. It turns out that the problem with the static content of the executive suites Toronto website was not the biggest problem, but this blog was the bigger problem.

I spent several more hours on Friday dealing with cleaning up the problems with the blog that I did not have a local back up of. I was able to download the word press blog files into a new directory file and find the problems before re-uploading them to fix the problems. Then it was a matter of informing Google that I had fixed the problems and wait for them give this Toronto office space blog a clean bill of health to remove their warning.

It was not until this morning that I could see that all the warnings had been removed and that the site was re-opened to visitors. My disaster recovery plan for the Telsec website worked. I had a clean regular back up that I could easily upload in case of an emergency. Now I know I also need to have a plan for the blog.

This year, the events that have occurred on this Mothers Day weekend have kind of helped me to be distracted from my sadness, but after resolving them, the sad feelings returned. So instead of wallowing in my sadness I decided to write about the incident and pay homage to my mom and my late wife.

My Mom was an awesome lady, she was there for me as a child and as an adult. When I was a child, she was always there for me and always encouraged me to do what I dreamed of doing. She was active in my life and my school life. She even volunteered her time at my school helping teachers and other staff. She continued this for years after I graduated out of primary school. When I entered to an exchange program in high school German class, it was my mom who persuaded my dad to allow a kid from Germany to stay with us for 4 weeks.

Now about Janet. I met Janet at a pub one night and began dating her. Problem was I was also dating another girl, who I liked equally. I tried to date both girls and they both knew that I was also dating the other.  After a short time, I realized that Janet was the one and broke off with the other girl. A year later I was married to Janet and life together was awesome. Janet was my soul mate and gave me a reason to be the creative person that I am. A year and a half into our marriage Janet (who was epileptic) had a massive seizure in her sleep and passed away.

Through some therapy and hard work, I am able to talk about and deal with the losses I have encored on a personal level, but I deal with them when special anniversary dates come around.

  • Over the past few days there were lots of things in the news to talk about over the water cooler in the kitchen at the executive suites Toronto where I have my Toronto office space. You would expect people to be talking about the fact that Bin Laden is dead, the election results or the flooding caused by the Mississippi river, but instead everyone was talking about replicas of Royal Wedding dress are already being created.

Just three days after Kate Middleton’s fairy-tale wedding to Prince William, replicas of her Alexander McQueen gown that was designed by Sarah Burton were already being showcased. It seems that one such designer Shala Moradi, who is the director of design for Faviana, a New York-based eveningwear company has had her team working around the clock to make a dress as close as possible as the original dress worn by Kate Middleton. Moradi claims that she has made some tweaks to the dress to make it more mass market friendly.

The other topic of conversation at my office space Toronto was the worst dressed lady at the Royal Wedding. It seems that it was a close battle between Prince William’s cousin, Princess Eugenie’s bright blue Vivienne Westwood dress with a Philip Treacy hat and Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Chelsy Davy’s seafoam green Alberta Ferretti dress with matching jacket, Jimmy Choo heels and Victoria Grant hat. Hands down the winner for worst dressed lady at the Royal Wedding was Chelsy Davy.

  • It was not just any Friday morning at my downtown Toronto office space, it was Royal Wedding day. People got to the office early to watch the royal wedding live on TV and over the Internet. Some people took it to a different level by dressing up and wearing funny hats.

When I arrived at the Toronto Star Building early this morning, I decided to first go to the cafeteria to see what breakfast special they were offering for the Royal Wedding. I was sadly disappointed that they were not offering bangers and mash until lunch time. I grabbed an English muffin from Tim Horton’s and went up to my office space Toronto for a complimentary coffee. Before leaving the cafeteria, I noticed that there were a group of women watching the Royal Wedding on TV wearing funny hats like so many of the women who were actually attending the wedding at Westminster Abbey.

Once upstairs in the Telsec executive suites Toronto, I headed for the kitchen to get a cup of my favourite and free coffee (hazelnut). The door to the boardroom just outside of the kitchen was open and there was 5 or 6 people sitting around a laptop watching the Royal Wedding and drinking their complimentary Tea along with enjoying some crumpets and jam purchased from the Kitchen Table across the road.

Throughout the morning, people were sending me links to photos of their own tea parties in honour of the Royal Wedding. One friend in Edmonton convinced a bunch of her friends to have a tea party with formal dresses and white gloves starting before midnight last night. The hilarious photos came from friends and family members who put tiaras on their pets and sent out the photos.

When lunchtime arrived, I figured I would go down to the cafeteria on the fourth floor and grab some lunch to bring back up to my office. Today’s menu consisted of items inspired by the Royal Wedding. First on the menu was the Royal Fish and Chips (which I could not figure out what made them Royal, did the Queen make them). There was Kate’s Bubble and Squeek with a whole egg baked into the top. I choose the Royal fish and chips and took them back up to my Toronto office space.

Evan as I drove home, they were talking on the radio about the all night after party going on at Buckingham Palace and that the Queen had opted out of the party in favour of a quiet night at Windsor Castle.

  • I am currently fighting a throat and ear infection that has made smoking painful… So I am taking this time to go Cold Turkey and quit smoking. It is not the easiest thing to do, but there is no better time to do it. Going through nicotine withdrawal while sick is a bit harder, yet easier at the same time.  I can take the medications the doctor has given me and spend most of my time sleeping instead of thinking of having a cigarette. The downfall is that I have become a real devil of a person to deal with.

I have been fighting this bug for almost a week now, I finally realized how bad it was on Tuesday.  I had a meeting with a major client on Tuesday at my downtown Toronto office space, during the meeting the client pulled out a bottle of hand cleaner to wipe off his pen. I knew then I was really sick and others noticed it. I am not one to easily accept when I am sick, but when I am sick, I am really sick.

During this time my girlfriend was able to get me to agree to move to the Beach neighborhood. She knew I was weak and would agree to almost anything to get her to give me more care.  The logic behind the move is that I will be closer to my office space Toronto and she will have an easier commute to her work at the Toronto Star Building cafeteria. Luckily we are not moving this week, but we can start moving stuff in over the next month. Once we have some of the stuff moved, I can stay here and fight my illness while she starts getting the new place ready. This also makes it easier for her not to have to deal with the devil I have become during my withdrawal.

Speaking of work again, I called the receptionist at my executive suites Toronto and told her that I would be out of the office for a few days and that my calls should be sent to voice mail, unless they were emergency calls and they could be transfered to my cell phone. Having this ability to change my call handling instructions on short notice is one of the main reasons for choosing Telsec as my office for rent Toronto. Being able to flex my time between my office and working from home is key for someone like me who operates a one man office.

  • other office space Toronto tenants at Easter ParadeThe 44th edition of the Toronto Beaches Lions Club Easter Parade was held yesterday. The parade was full of happy, hoppy people including this year’s parade Grand Marshal, Heather Moyse; who won Canada’s first ever women’s gold medal in bobsled at the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver. The parade also had Miss Canada, Miss Teen Canada and various other beauty pageant winners, including Junior Miss.

Some of the featured groups in the parade include the Malvern Marching Band, the Shriners’ Musical Train, the Tian Guo Marching Band of Canada, the York Lions Steel Band, The Toronto Fire Dept Pipes and Drums, a Zamboni from Ted Reeve Community Arena, members of the local roller derby league, four-legged friends and all sorts of clowns and other costumed characters, including, Storm troopers, Dark Sith, the Emperor, Darth Vadar and of course the Easter Bunny.

Darth Vadar Does not Have Office Space Toronto, but he did attend Easter ParadeBefore going to the Easter Parade, my girlfriend and I had brunch with some new friends at the Beacher Cafe. As we were waiting to be seated, a familiar face walked by me, It was another tenant who had just moved in down the hall from my executive suite Toronto. I remembered his face, as we had talked in the kitchen while he was grabbing a coffee and I was microwaving a bag of popcorn. I remembered that he mentioned that he too started off as Toronto virtual office client with a $30 Toronto mail service. As his business expanded, he decided to take a Toronto shared offices and make use of having a professional receptionist answer his calls and greet his clients.

After the parade, we went over to Ed’s Real Scoop for some homemade ice cream. While we were there I noticed the mother of one of my childhood friends. It seems that my friend Chuck who used to love to blow things up in the backyard and the ravine went back to school late in life, got his undergrad, his Masters, and now at 45 is working on his PHD in environmental sciences. I thought that was really cool.

Today while I was driving down to my downtown Toronto office space, I noticed the roads were not that busy for a Monday, but remembered that unlike the many entrepreneurs who have office space Toronto at Telsec, many government workers and other companies also take Easter Monday off.

  • Charlie Sheen before his walk in Toronto

Charlie Sheen Takes a Walk in Toronto

It began on Friday when I was told about Charlie Sheens tweets, it seems that he was tweeting about walking from his hotel (The Ritz Carlton, Toronto) to his show venue Massey Hall to raise awareness for Bi Polar disorders. I decided to get my camera ready and head down early to get a good spot in front of the hotel. I decided to wear cargo shorts and a bowling shirt inspired by Charlie’s character on “Two and half Men”, but that was my mistake.

Charlie did not emerge from the Ritz Carlton hotel until just before 7 PM, almost an hour after his walk was scheduled to begin. When he came out, he surveyed the crowd from under the hotel awning and headed over to a waiting SUV. Instead of getting into the SUV, he got up on the hood of the truck to talk to the crowd. Immediately, the TV news crews pushed their way past the fans so they could get their shots. Polite Canadian fans did not resist the pushing and shoving out of the way by TV camera crews.  At one point when Charlie got off the hood of the SUV and started walking, the camera crews would not give him a chance to walk and almost ended the walk. Charlie’s private security detail and police were finally able to get the TV cameras to move and let him walk, but not before the fans started chanting “Let Him Walk”.

As he proceeded along Wellington to University Avenue, the only people who seemed to be able to get close to Charlie were the pushy camera crews. A few openings for fans to banter back and forth with Charlie came as he was walking up University towards Queen Street, I myself was able to slip a few words into Charlie and he replied back. All along the route police with bicycles were forcing people to stay on the sidewalk, which caused more congestion on the small sidewalks of Toronto. I would have hated to be someone coming in the opposite direction.

When the walk finally ended at Massey Hall, Charlie climbed the fire escape of the famous Toronto landmark and tried to talk to those who had gathered. Since he did not have a sound system or a microphone, Charlie had to rely on the crowd quieting down so they could hear him. In good Canadian manor, the crowd did stop their shouts and chants to let Charlie speak. I was able to shoot video of both his speech in front of the Ritz Carlton and at Massey Hall after the walk.

    Charlie on Hood of SUV

Charlie on Fire Escape of Massey Hall

It was an epic walk that my girlfriend said was more exciting than the tourist bus fire she witnessed across the road from my office space Toronto at the Toronto Star Building, where she too now works.

Someone Dressed as Rose from Two and a Half Men

Rose from Two and a Half Men

Saturday night was also all about Charlie Sheen, as a friend had a Charlie Sheen party. He re-arranged his photo studio to feel like a hotel room where Charlie would entertain. People were encouraged to dress as their favorite “Two and a Half Men” characters. He even hid a watch and invited everyone to search for it so that they could win a pair of tickets to an even he is holding in May.  The party was a great success and everyone left happy they had attended.

Sunday morning my girlfriend and I decided to go for brunch. I was still quite tired, so I just put back on the Charlie Sheen inspired bowling shirt that I had worn Saturday night. When we sat down at the local Golden Griddle and I took my jacket off, the hostess made a joke that I looked like Charlie… only thing is, I am shaved bald and Charlie has a full head of hair.

Tonight we are going to a dinner party that has nothing to do with Charlie Sheen, but it is an inspired theme, The Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre is really pure invention, a story told by “scholars” to explain the origins of Easter.

With so much going on this weekend, I am thinking that I will want to sleep in on Monday and not go into my downtown Toronto office space. This is an easy decision to make because I know that I can call the receptionist at my executive suites Toronto in the morning and have her forward my calls to my cell phone instead of my Toronto executive offices.

  • On Monday when I left my house to take the bus (yes the bus) to my downtown Toronto office space, my street was full of different coloured election signs.  There were red signs, blue signs and green signs, but funny no orange signs. Then when I went to catch the bus on Tuesday to again go down to my office space Toronto, the only signs I saw were red and there was more of them. When I reached the bus stop, the man behind the red signs was greeting people and handing out his literature.

It was only a week ago at a social networking event for the blue signs came under controversy because they kicked out two women who had pictures of them with the man behind the red signs on their Facebook profiles. Then there is a judge who is running with a red sign who seems to keep making controversial comments not only from the bench but also after making contentious remarks on a radio show about sex assault and jail time, suggesting not all sex offenders belonged in behind bars. The orange party is not without its controversy, it seems that during an all candidates meeting in Northern Ontario  an orange sign candidate made comment about the blue sign guys picture on campaign sign was a big target while debating the long gun registry. The only controversy that the green signs seem to have is their big green sign not be included in the leaders debates.

The politics of not letting the green signs to participate in the leaders debates is like the kids in the sandbox who do not want to give up their spot or the office politics where someone is not included in a conversation or meeting. Why should the light blue election signs who are only in one province be there and not the green signs?

When it comes to office politics, I have never seen it at my office for rent Toronto. This may be because the people who work from executive suites Toronto do not have the time for office politics and primarily are the sole occupant of their office space. The water cooler talk in the kitchens with complimentary coffee is usually light and about topics of interest outside the office. The only thing close to controversial I have heard in the kitchen was why the mens restroom was larger than the womens, the true controversy was how this woman knew that the mens room was larger.

  • Over the past few weeks we have had some good weather days, only to be followed by days where winter resurfaces. As I was walking from an appointment on Front Street back to my downtown Toronto office space, I noticed the dangerous evidence of fluctuating temperatures on the ceiling of the railway underpass on Yonge Street. With the warming thaw, water seeps through the expansion gaps of the underpass. Then when it gets cold again, the water forms icicles that dangle from the ceiling. People have to quickly walk under them in case one of them breaks off from the underpass ceiling.

I am not one to complain about the coming of spring, I embrace it.  Spring is one of my favorite seasons. On warm spring days, I can slip out of my Toronto office space at 1 Yonge Street, and take a walk along the harbourfront for lunch. Telsec’s executive suites Toronto are also a quick walk to the pubs with patios on the Esplanade where I went on Wednesday.

When I got home Wednesday evening, I noticed a pool of water under the couch I have in my bedroom. When I moved the couch, all of the tile had buckled and the radiator was leaking. I called the building superintendent who quickly assessed the situation and called the heating and plumbing company. The company said that they could not get someone to my place until 8:30 AM Thursday. I had a telephone meeting scheduled for Thursday morning at my Toronto office space and then my girlfriend wanted to take me out for my birthday lunch, what was I going to do? I decided to ask my girlfriend if we could do dinner instead of lunch. I then contacted the receptionist at my downtown Toronto office space and instructed her to forward my calls to my cell phone after answering them. This way the client I was having the telephone meeting with would believe I was in the office space Toronto that he had previously met me in.

The plumbing problem was repaired by 2pm, but the people that fix the drywall and floor will not be able to come in until Monday or Tuesday when everything is completely dry. So on Friday I went into my office for rent Toronto as usual, with the first stop being the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. As I was telling a fellow Toronto office space client about my water damage and that I would have to work from home while the repairs were being done, another office space Toronto client mentioned that their basement had just been flooded too.  It took them 4 days to dry the basement out, before restoration could begin. Instead of taking time away from the office, they set up a webcam to monitor how the work was progressing. Since they had a high speed Internet connection at home and super high speed Internet at their office space downtown Toronto, they could keep the connection to the web cam without losing speed at the office. While this is a great idea that would be easy to set up, it was a bit of overkill.

Luckily my nephew was working evening shifts and would be able to come over to my place during the day and monitor the progress without me having to set up a high tech solution.

  • As many of my friends and family know, I develop websites and help plan companies online success. Most also know that I do not do all the back end programming myself. My skill set is planning and developing a team the fits each individual project, because different projects require different sets of skills and expertise.

This week I met a client about a project that required a programmer that was skilled in Oracle SQL data bases that would be used both online and offline by the clients staff. I had one programmer in mind that I had worked with in the past. I tried to call him on a phone number that I had for him, my call was answered by a voice mail system, as it was after hours. The next day when I tried to call his number again, it was answered by someone with a thick southern accent, they said he was out of the office and again transferred me to his voice mail. When I did not hear from him until two days later, I put out the call to other Oracle programmers.

I was getting myself a complimentary cup of coffee at my downtown Toronto office space, when another office space client came into the kitchen. I recognized him from previous conversations about technology, so I struck up a conversation about needing an Oracle data base specialist. He told me about a guy who he had work done by, I recognized the name as the same guy I had worked with, but the number was different. The number the other office client gave me was his direct cell number.

When I returned to my executive suites Toronto, I gave him a call. I told him about the project and asked him to come into my office for a meeting the next day. The next day we had out meeting in one of the Toronto meeting rooms at my office space Toronto. Near the end of the meeting, I brought up how difficult it was to get a hold of him through the number he lists on his website and that it was another office client who knew him that had given me his cell number. He explained to me that he was using a virtual office service that handled his calls and that he picked up his mail from a locked room in a downtown office building. It turns out that the virtual office provider he was using was not even located in Toronto, they were just piggybacking on another companies service.

  • It is late Sunday night and I am out at a dinner with friends celebrating a special occasion when I got a call from a client. It seems that had accidently deleted a file containing some photos I took for them, and they needed to send the photo to their printer by 2:30 AM in the morning. The problem was that I had not taken my car to this celebration and it would take me too long to get home by public transit or even taxi, in order for me to get the photo to client so they could meet their deadline.

I remembered that I had copies of the photos on my computer at my downtown Toronto office space. My office space Toronto was only a few minute taxi ride from the entertainment district, so off I went. Even on a Sunday night it is not easy to get a cab in the club district, most of the Taxis were already in use. I finally caught one and was on my way to my executive suites Toronto.

When I got to the Toronto Star Building, I paid the taxi and proceeded to go into the building with my security pass in hand. As I was riding up the elevator, I realized that I did not have my Blackberry. I could not worry about that for the time being, I had to get the photos to the client. After finding the file of photos, I remembered that the number of the file they need was on my Blackberry, so I would have to send them the entire batch again. This was one of the times I was so happy that my office for rent Toronto had an amazing high speed internet connection. I was able to upload the 100 MB file in only a few minutes to my client’s FTP server. I called the client and they were able to extract the photo they needed and were able to meet their deadline.

With another happy client satisfied, it was time for me to head home. That is when I realized that it was not only my Blackberry that I had left in the taxi, but also my wallet. It seemed that in my haste to pay the taxi driver and to get my security pass out and handy, I had also left my wallet on the seat of the taxi. I had no idea of the taxi cab company or the number of the taxi license. How was I going to get home? Lucky for me I had a bunch of change in my pocket and there was a 24 hour bus a block away.

This morning when I arrived at my Toronto office space, there was a message for me to come down to the main security desk on the first floor. When I got to the security desk, there was a large envelope waiting for me. Inside the envelope was my Blackberry and Wallet. It seems that taxi driver discovered it and brought it back to the security guard on duty 10 minutes after I had left the building. I think with this kind of luck, I should buy a lottery ticket today.
