• I think I may have had one of the worse weeks last week. I never thought I would look forward to a Monday. The week began with dealing with a plumber fixing the heating pipe leak, then waiting for the flooring guy to fix the damaged Parquet flooring who could not seal and finish the floor unless we could be out of the apartment for 36 hours due to the toxic fumes from the sealer. It would be easy for me or my roommate to be out of the house, but there is no where for my roommates cat to go for 36 to 48 hours that would make the apartment safe for the cat. So we have to wait to have the floor finished.  The drywall guy came on Thursday but will not be returning till Tuesday to sand the joints.  This leaves my apartment in chaos until all the work is done and I can put the furniture back in place.

Friday arrived and so did more problems. I was working on some Internet advertising, when my internet connection stopped working. After hours of dealing with my home ISP, they finally discovered that a technician working at the switching station had mistakingly removed our connection.  While the problem was being fixed, I found myself thankful that I was able to get back on track and keep on schedule by heading to my downtown Toronto office space to finish my work.

My weekend did not bring me any better news. I went to a party on Saturday for a friends birthday, but I had to go alone because my girlfriend was spending the weekend with her family. On my way home from the party I stopped at a 24 hours fast food restaurant to get a 2 AM snack. When I returned to my car it would not start. It acted like it was out of gas, but the low fuel light had not come on. So I took a streetcar a few minutes away to a gas station to buy a gas can and gas. I had to take a taxi back to my car because the streetcar driver would not let me on with a gas can. Even with the added gas in the tank my car would barely stay running beyond the initial turning over.  I stood at the corner of King and Dufferin for over 45 minutes until I finally was able to flag down a tow truck. $100 later my car was in my parking space at home.

This morning as I took public transit to Telsec’s executive suites Toronto where I have an office for rent Toronto, I got a call from a client who was supposed to meet me at my office at 9 am, but they were running late. This worked well for me, as I too was running late. I normally leave my apartment and get to my office space Toronto in less than 30 minutes by car.  I did not calculate on waiting almost 10 minutes for the bus to get to my stop and all the other stops the bus had to make along the route to the subway station.

  • Every year millions of people around the world look forward to the Super Bowl, but not everyone is interested in the game. There are millions of people who want to watch the big game just to see the epic Television commercials that will only be aired during the Super Bowl.

In 1973 (Super Bowl VII), the first ever super-high-profile Super Bowl ad was aired. The ad featured the sexy Farrah Fawcett spreading Noxzema cream on Joe Namath’s face. The next most talked about Super Bowl commercial came in 1980, Mean Joe Green tossed his game-worn jersey to a young boy after the boy gave him his Coca-Cola. Then in 1984, Apple used a George Orwell’s “1984″ inspired commercial to introduce “The Mac Computer” and thus starting the trend of creating epic commercials for the most watched annual event.

The problem for me and millions of Canadians is that we do not get to see them. Unless you are watching an American TV station via antenna or satellite, Canadian commercials are substituted by the network who hold the Canadian rights to air the game. Over the past years, these epic ads find their way onto the Internet a few days after the big game. A few years ago, I found a site that was uploading the commercials minutes after the commercial aired on TV.

Fast forward to 2011 (Super Bowl XLV) This year, I cannot find that site. There seems to be hundreds of web sites claiming they have the 2011 commercials, but most of the ads they feature are the ones that were released in advance by the advertiser. Most of the sites were set up to lure people onto the site and gain revenue themselves from online advertising, some did not even have links to any Super Bowl commercials. It took a while, but finally the commercials started getting put up on the Internet.

Some will ask me why I put so much effort into finding these commercials tonight, my answer is three words – Water Cooler Chat. I know that when I get into my downtown Toronto office space, everyone will be talking about the Super Bowl and this year’s epic commercials. I do not want to be the only one at my office space that has not seen them. As I am writing this, I wonder what the Toronto virtual office clients do when they want morning coffee chat. Maybe I should convince the staff at my Toronto office space to create a virtual coffee chat room for the clients in their virtual office locations.

By the way, does anyone know the score on the game? Go Team Go!

  • It was only last week that I watched the season finale of my favorite summer show “Big Brother”. I have another blog I will be writing about the ending and the Jury’s choice of Hayden over Lane as the winner of “Big Brother”.

One summer show (that I did not watch this summer) that ended last week was “Americas Got Talent”.  I only heard about that show from listening to the “Howard Stern Show” on Sirius Satellite Radio. The most interesting thing I heard about “Americas Got Talent”  is that they promoted the fact the winner would take home a million dollars, but it was the research staff of the “Howard Stern Show” that publicly outed the show when they discovered that the winner would receive $25,000 for 40 years. Had one of the older contestants won, they would not likely be alive long enough to collect their $1,000,000, they probably would have had to take the $300,000 buy out.  This is a lesson to anyone who thinks they will actually win a million dollars on a reality TV show.

Back to what I was started this blog about, the new TV season and the fact that it is the true sign that fall is here.  This week many of the new returning fall shows are starting or have already started. The one season premier that I have already seen is “The Apprentice”.

I think Donald Trump has come up with an amazing concept this season of “The Apprentice”. He has taken 16 professionals who have been hard hit by this recession and given them a chance to compete for a lucrative job within his organization. He is also giving those who he fired an opportunity to meet up with another top business executive for another chance.

I found that it was very interesting that the first task for the contestants was to design and set up modern office space in New York City. The teams could have saved themselves a great deal of time by researching office space New York on the Telsec website.

One of the people who won on a previous season of “The Apprentice” was given a chance to oversee the new Trump Tower Toronto Project, which offers luxury condos, a hotel and prestigious Toronto office space. This building is nearing completion and I do not know if “The Apprentice” winner is still on the job overseeing this project.

  • With all the talk about the H1N1 virus (swine flu), many people are concerned what they are going to do if they are too sick to go into the office.  Besides not wanting to go too far from home, many do not want to spread the virus and make others sick. Even if it is not the flu, when you are under the weather it is not actually working that you do not want to do, but it is the commute to get to the office that you are not up for.

Sometimes staying home and not working is not an option, especially if you are the only one working in your office.   Why not consider telecommuting?  Telsec serviced office centres can change how your calls are handled and forward them to your home without your clients knowing you are not working in your Toronto office space. If you need to be able to work on files from your office computer, there are services you can use like GoToMyComputer that allow you access to your office computer from any computer that you have access to. Setting up a service like this is not only beneficial when you are sick, but telecommuting software allows for the ability to work anywhere such as a home office, in the car, at a coffee shop or even while on vacation.  But nothing beats working in your serviced office space Toronto.
