• With the weather we have been experiencing over the past few days, I am beginning to believe that we cannot put our trust in groundhogs. This year neither Wiarton Willie nor his American cousin Punxsutawney Phil saw their shadows this year, meaning that spring weather was to come sooner.

According to legend of Groundhog Day, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on February 2nd and does not see it’s Shadow, than we are in for an early spring. If the groundhog sees its shadow it will retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks.

For the past few years I have used the Toronto International Bicycle Show as my barometer to the fact that spring is right around the corner. It is not the size of the crowds that I use to measure how close spring is (the Bicycle Show always gets great crowds), but instead I count the number of people who arrive on their bikes and park them out front of the Better Living Centre at Exhibition Place. If the bike racks are full, spring is only days away. If they are not too full, then spring is a few more weeks away.

The Toronto International Bicycle Show’s Toronto executive offices are located just down the hall from my Toronto office space. I have often seen the show manager Carl booking a boardroom in the weeks that lead up to the bike show. On Friday, I saw Carl in the kitchen of my office space Toronto getting a coffee and we had a short chat. As we were talking, he offered me a few complimentary passes to attend the show. I was thankful and told him that I would take some photos for him and would be happy to send him copies.

The greatest part of having my downtown Toronto office space at Telsec has been the networking opportunities that have come my way when meeting other office space clients.

  • Fall Bikeshow line upSaturday October 16th is the best day to buy a new bicycle. Why? because it is the date of the  Bicycle Fall Blowout Sale.

Retailers slash their prices for an end of the season sale. Last year a friend of mine bought a $2000 bicycle for $700. There were families there buying $500 bikes for under $100. There were plenty of parts and accessories available at below wholesale price.

If you are a bicycle rider or enthusiast, this is the place to be this Saturday. Oh and get there early. The show opens at 10 am, but some folks line up as early as 8:30 am to be at the front of the line.

  • While it is not bicycle weather yet, unless you are one of the hard core cyclists that ride year round.

It has been a long and cold winter, so with the warmer weather approaching, people are starting to think of getting out their bike and getting it ready for a spring tune up.  Many others will be heading to the Toronto international Bicycle Show this weekend at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place.

Besides looking for the new bicycle models, some people will be going to the bicycle show for the newest trends and fashions in bicycle clothing and the newest innovations in bikes parts and accessories, others will be going to watch some of the great bicycle demonstrations and competitions.

Competitions include Toronto BMX Jam returning  for the 11th year. A number of the world’s best Professional Street Course BMX riders will battle it out for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.  Also returning is the Pro Mountain Bike and BMX in the all new Toronto Indoor Stadium 4 Cross Races feature a diabolical course right on the floor of The Better Living Centre. A special feature of the show will be the Freestyle Jumping competition taking place all weekend.

Some of the other features of the Toronto Bicycle Show is the Meta Bikes Trials Contest.  The Kids Cycling Zone – A carpeted area the kids can pedal away on some neat tricycles – helmets provided, adult supervision required. There is also a Test Ride Zone for adults too.

You can also meet representatives from Bicycle Clubs and learn how they can make your cycling more enjoyable and fulfilling. Or take in the InVita Fashion Show – A spectacular 15 minutes of cycling Spring/Summer fashion showcasing Europe’s best from Assos, Castelli, GSG and Wilier Triestina.

So what are you doing this weekend?

If you are looking for a great office space Toronto that is easy to get to with the new bicycle you purchased at the bicycle show, then consider Telsec’s Toronto office space. Located at One Yonge Street in the Toronto Star Building. Just outside the building there are dedicated bike lanes that connect to both major multi-use pathways that are primarily used as bicycle paths.
