Downtown Toronto commuters are anticipating two chaotic weeks of slowdowns, as the city shuts down one of the busiest intersections at Queen Street West and Spadina for transit rail re-construction and maintenance Monday morning. With the intersection being shut down to traffic in all directions for the next two weeks, many commuters are trying to find alternative routes and bypasses of the intersection. But the closure of Queen and Spadina will have little effect on office space Toronto clients, because it is very easy for them to avoid that area.
The Streetcar track replacement work that began Monday is in anticipation of the arrival of new low-floor streetcars in 2014. Some tweeters and bloggers are already calling the closure of this arterial intersection “Carmageddon TO.” Brad Ross, the spokesman for the TTC, said the unique nature of the busy downtown intersection is the reason for the lengthy closure. Mr. Ross is quoted as saying “It’s one of the few intersections that we have that allows for streetcars to go in any direction in terms of turning. There’s a lot of switches in that intersection. All of that track has to be pulled out, which is of course embedded in concrete.” Mr. Ross went on further to say “It’s a lot of work that has to be done and it’s a lot more efficient to get it done in one chunk of time rather than over a period of months.” Josie Graziosi (Vice President of Telsec Business Centres) was quoted to say “The closure of Queen and Spadina will have little effect on Office Space Toronto clients because of Telsec’s location and the many alternative routes that avoid the closed intersection entirely.”
To put some context to the situation, we should mention that Spadina Avenue is one of the major North-South arterial roads that take commuters to and from Lake Shore Blvd. and the Gardiner Expressway. These major routes are the way that many suburban commuters drive on to get into and out of the city core. With Telsec’s Toronto office space being located south of Lake Shore Blvd. and the Gardiner Expressway, it has a unique advantage for easy access to these roadways. Thus the closure of Queen and Spadina will have little effect on Office Space Toronto clients who drive to work.
Even for those who travel to their Toronto office space at Telsec, there are plenty of alternative routes that avoid this intersection, so the closure of Queen and Spadina will have little effect on Office Space Toronto clients. Toronto Virtual office clients will not see any effect either.
